Description
This is a conversion of the Carl Zeiss 28mm f/2.8 Biogon lens originally for the Contax G camera system. These lenses are extremely sharp and highly compact, and show beautiful bokeh and vibrant colours in usage. See a variety of sample images in the gallery using the Leica M9 and M11 cameras.
Lens has been expertly converted using an all brass helicoid CG28-28 Omnar lens body, which was custom made for this lens. The lens is able to focus down to 0.25m MFD, and is RF coupled from 0.65m thru Infinity.
The finish on this lens is a combination black gloss lacquer with some brassing, combined with black matte chrome and champagne satin highlights. This finish combination was chosen so the lens would match both gloss black, matte black and matte chrome rangefinder cameras.
The optics are in very good- excellent condition and are fungus and haze free. The one optical imperfection is on the outer edge of the rear element, what appears to be an air bubble or coating mark (shown circled in one of the gallery images). This mark falls outside the full frame image circle, and has no bearing on the photographic quality of the lens. Do note, as in most of our conversions, the optics are being reused and repurposed from their original housings into our new mechanical bodies. We strive to get the best optical specimens of each lens in for these type of conversions. Still, due to the fact that these lenses date back to the 1990’s, there may be some micro marks or tiny dust specks that we can’t fully remove when servicing and converting the lenses.
Lens comes with a custom rear M cap, and clip on front Contax E46 cap, along with a 46mm UV filter.
